Matt’s Results for San Francisco:
Authored San Francisco’s Overpaid Executive Tax (Prop L), the first voter-approved tax in the country targeting the massive gap between worker and CEO pay. Passed overwhelmingly by voters, Prop L’s revenues will provide San Francisco with tens of millions of dollars to hire more nurses, social workers, and emergency responders.
Launched the Guaranteed Income Advisory Task Force, which is preparing a pilot program in which up to a thousand residents would receive unrestricted monthly payments to confront poverty.
Fought for critical pandemic relief grants to save cherished restaurants and neighborhood businesses, including authoring San Francisco Music Venue Relief Fund.
Matt’s Commitments in the Assembly:
Develop a state-level Overpaid Executive Tax modeled on San Francisco’s Prop L in 2020. The tax would target companies whose highest-paid executives make more than 100 times the median salaries of their employees and revenues from the tax would be used to hire more nurses, firefighters, and social workers across the state.
